Regional press launch exceeds sales targets
PRG enrolled the assistance of a local celebrity to help launch its solar energy marketing campaign for East Sussex Energy Partnership, which achieved widespread media coverage and exceeded the Partnerships’ sales targets for solar energy grants.
PRG chose weatherman Michael Fish to front the press launch, because of his close links to East Sussex and other energy initiatives. To illustrate the solar marketing campaign’s key messages – free help, warmth, and four Local Authorities working together, PRG thought up a humorous photocall scenario involving Michael Fish soaking in a warm bath of bubbles, surrounded by a garland of sunflowers, and invited four Council leaders from Eastbourne, Hastings, Rother and Wealden to join the photoshoot.
National, regional and radio coverage
Local news reporters and photographers were invited to attend the solar energy press launch, which resulted in national coverage in The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph and regional newspaper and radio coverage worth a value of more than £43,300.
Solar press launch on TV!
Following the press launch, PRG’s solar energy marketing campaign got further exposure on BBC One’s Have I Got News for You, which used one of the press photos in a celebrity quiz.
Exceeding solar grant targets
The solar energy press launch was so successful at generating enquiries that in the first year East Sussex Energy Partnership installed 132 solar panels worth an estimated £528,000, and has enough eligible candidates to fulfil solar grant targets for 2010.
