PHEX show: A marketing insight

Last week, I attended the plumbing and heating exhibition PHEX at Alexandra Palace in London, which was a welcome break from the office - except the long trek up the hill from the station in my high heels! Once I reached the top and recovered from the overexertion, I spent a good couple of hours browsing the stands to see for myself the latest innovations in plumbing and heating.

Last week, I attended the plumbing and heating exhibition PHEX at Alexandra Palace in London, which was a welcome break from the office – except the long trek up the hill from the station in my high heels! Once I reached the top and recovered from the overexertion, I spent a good couple of hours browsing the stands to see for myself the latest innovations in plumbing and heating.

As a marketeer, I’m normally the last person that exhibitors want to speak to at this type of event. After all, the reason businesses exhibit is to sell themselves not to be sold to. However, to my surprise, a few friendly exhibitors happily gave me a tour of their stands and allowed me to briefly introduce PRG Marketing Communications and our experience in building services PR and marketing.

The fact is, businesses in the plumbing and heating industry – some large ‘blue chips’ and some small and very specialised – have been benefitting from our building services PR and marketing expertise for more than 30 years. But, rather than irritating exhibitors by giving them the hard sell on their stand, I’ve taken to writing a blog about some of the great stuff we’ve done and are still doing for our building services clients.

Boiler PR and marketing

We have a long history of successfully helping boiler manufacturers promote their new products and services, including 11 years working with Vaillant and several years working with Keston Boilers and Ideal Commercial.

As well as helping boiler manufacturers develop a strategic marketing plan for their businesses, we’ve helped them sell their products through creative boiler advertising and sales literature, enticing product launches and press events, and targeted, well-written editorial.

Building services PR and marketing

Identifying story opportunities and selling in editorial is something we specialise in and we have the contacts in the building services trade media to secure coverage in print and online. But our industry expertise does not stop at PR alone.

Our building services clients cover a broad spectrum, including air conditioning products, ventilation hygiene, pensions and heating and plumbing solutions and, as a full service marketing agency, they rely on us to advise on the best marketing mix to achieve their goals.

Last year, we helped one of our clients launch the world’s most advanced air-cooled chiller to the UK market and gained extensive PR coverage in the HVAC sector.

We have also just helped one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of safety solutions for bathrooms launch itself in the UK market with a new responsive website and will now be rolling out a planned programme of advertising, public relations and social media activity to firmly establish its presence.

Through our understanding of the building services and HVACR sectors, we are able to recognise and develop PR opportunities and run building services marketing campaigns that win sales.
