PR & Marketing for Local Authorities

PR and marketing communications for local authorities should be as inspired and engaging as if they were for private sector enterprises. There may not be a profit-driven need to sell, but there’s often a target-driven reason to tell, and tell well - to gain the attention of people who are targeted by many other expertly crafted marketing messages every day.

Where audience reaction is crucial – for example, in encouraging the take-up of grants, assistance and loans – PRG achieves high response rates with cleverly crafted campaigns that have consumer appeal, not a council feel.

PRG has worked successfully with 17 local authorities in East Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Surrey, and the West Midlands, and one member of the PRG team previously managed PR and marketing communications for the Housing and Health department of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

PRG assists local authorities with a wide spectrum of marketing services: strategic planning; demographic targeting; campaign concepts; press launches and photo calls; press releases; advertising in print, on the radio, and outdoors; direct mail; support at exhibitions; and the creation of campaign-specific websites or microsites.

In local government marketing and PR, our recent activities have included:

Eastbourne Borough Council – the ‘Because you deserve it!’ campaign, encouraging take-up of private housing grants and assistance

East Sussex Energy Partnership – partnership of four councils, promoting free or grant-assisted home insulation and solar panels to reduce residents’ energy costs

Warm & Healthy Homes Partnership – partnership of five councils, promoting free or grant-assisted home insulation and boiler replacements to reduce residents’ energy costs

Warmth for 1,000 – partnership of seven councils, promoting free or grant-assisted home insulation to reduce residents’ energy costs
