MAKE THE WEB WORK FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Your website is an online shop window and, with nearly 50% of the UK using the Internet on a regular basis, it has a huge number of potential customers. A good website should be easy to navigate, reflect the values of your company and, most importantly, be easily found by the right people.
1) Catch them
You may have the best looking website in the world, but if no one finds it, it's completely useless. Approximately 75% of Internet users search for information on Google, often looking no further than the first three or four sites listed. For a website to be successful it should appear, under relevant search terms, at least on the first page of Google.
Google ranks websites under a number of criteria – the number of visitors, how often the content is updated and how relevant the information included on the site is to any given search.
2) Keep them
A good website should be easy to navigate, so users can find the information they require quickly. People have very little patience on the web and if they don’t find what they’re looking for within a few seconds it’s likely that they’ll leave your site and go elsewhere.
3) Make a sale!
Make sure phone numbers and email addresses are big and clear and on every page – only 30% of visitors will get to your site through the home page. This may seem basic, but it's often overlooked. A quick-fill enquiry form provides an even easier option for interested visitors.
Building a website or updating an existing one may be viewed as an expense your business can't afford, but with the measurable nature of the Internet, if successful you can quantify the return on your investment by the number of sales your site creates – sales you wouldn't have made if your site hadn’t been found. The question then changes from "How much money will a website cost?" to "How much money am I losing without one?"
