Thanks to mobile technology, the concept of a 9-5 job is dead. Now we can reply to our emails straight from our smartphones, sun ourselves on the beaches of Brazil while having a conference call on Skype, and have several people across the world edit documents, thanks to cloud computing.
Social contact company, Gist, looked into this new way of working and produced an infographic. Gist found that 38% of people preferred to work at home and 78% of people questioned used their smartphones to access their emails.
Thanks to technology, the work/life balance is becoming increasingly blurred. According to a recent Ofcom survey, smartphone users are more likely to answer work calls while on holiday or on annual leave. 70% of those questioned said they have answered work calls while off work, compared to just 16% with an ordinary mobile.
Does the rise of mobile technology mean that we are being more productive with our time, or does it mean we can’t switch off? Are you one of the 70% who take work calls while on holiday?
