On all my school reports, teachers wrote: “Very chatty!” However, as someone who likes to talk, public speaking never fell into the category of things I like to do. Then something out of the ordinary happened, I volunteered to stand up in a room of more than 100 strangers to talk about social media, the area that I have been working in for the past year.
A somewhat brave moment clouded by insanity you may think, but it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After weeks of what seemed like a whirlwind of hard work and editing, all the prep work, promotion and rehearsals were over and the day had finally come.
As the team and I waited nervously for people to come and take their seats, we were pleasantly surprised at the amazing turnout. A wave of excitement from the number of people that had turned up calmed me, if only for a brief moment.
The seminar was a great success and the questions we received from the audience were fantastic. One question in particular, about how you can make money from social media, got us all thinking – I’m sure there will be a blog post about it very soon!
